Anaheim. Seattle Mariners’ star outfielder Julio Rodriguez shared his feelings following the robbery incident at his residence in early May. The King County Prosecutor’s Office in Seattle confirmed the event, as part of an investigation involving charges against a 21-year-old suspect.
A Difficult Moment
Rodríguez described the episode as a “very difficult moment for me and my family.” He revealed that his partner was alone in the house during the robbery and had to take refuge in the bathroom to avoid being confronted. It’s hard because, man, I just want to go out and play baseball… and have people trying to hurt me and my family… it was very difficult, it was very scary.
Julio Rodríguez
According to the report, the robbery was part of a series of break-ins targeting high-profile athletes in the Seattle area. Among those affected are fellow Dominicans Luis Castillo and Edgar Martinez, pitcher Blake Snell, and former NFL player Richard Sherman. The suspects stole goods valued at nearly US$200,000, including luxury handbags and jewelry.
Rodríguez expressed his gratitude for the support received from the Mariners and local authorities, highlighting the coordination and emotional support he has received since the incident.
The investigation is still ongoing and one of the suspects has not yet been publicly identified.I don’t know what I would do if I were to lose someone I love. Being able to be in your house and not feel safe… I don’t think anyone deserves that.
Julio Rodríguez
Rodríguez concluded his message by appealing to empathy and social awareness:
I just wish people would think a little more… someone could have lost their life just because a person is trying to take your things.
