Grizzlies’ Zach Edey to Undergo Ankle Sprain Surgery
Memphis Grizzlies rookie center Zach Edey suffered a new sprain in his left ankle during an offseason workout this week. This will require surgery to stabilize the ankle, likely sidelining him at the start of the 2025-26 season.
“After consulting with the Grizzlies and several specialists, we decided this is the best long-term approach for Zach, as it gets him back to 100% without limitations,” stated Mark Bartelstein, Edey’s representative from Priority Sports.

In his rookie season, Edey averaged 9.2 points and led all rookies with 8.3 rebounds per game. The Grizzlies player also recorded 58% field goal efficiency and averaged 1.3 blocks per game in 66 appearances.
Edey, who received 73 votes for the first team and 27 for the second team, was one of the few players to appear on all 100 ballots for the NBA All-Rookie Team. Edey finished fifth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting.
