Yu Darvish Advances in Recovery, Nears Return
San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish continues to progress in his recovery from the elbow inflammation that landed him on the injured list at the start of the season.
Darvish threw his third consecutive day of pitches from the mound on Wednesday, showing significant progress in his rehabilitation.
“He came out feeling good, I spoke with him yesterday after the game, he’s very encouraged,” commented manager Mike Shildt. “He came early today and threw practice pitches… He got on the mound again yesterday, so that’s three days in a row from the mound with some pitches, with a bullpen session interspersed. So, recovering, still throwing well. He has a plan for another bullpen session and then we’ll see. Everything favorable and on track.”

According to manager Mike Shildt, Darvish will return to San Diego for another bullpen session on Friday or Saturday. Subsequently, the team will determine the next steps in his recovery.
The 38-year-old veteran was placed on the injured list on March 24 and is preparing for his thirteenth season in the Major Leagues. Darvish participated in two preseason starts, but was pulled after his second outing on March 13 against Kansas City, where he pitched four innings and threw 54 pitches.
