Corbin Burnes to the Injured List: Concern for the Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks’ ace Corbin Burnes has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The news comes just two days after Burnes left a game against the Washington Nationals.

In the game against the Nationals, Arizona was leading 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Burnes allowed a single to CJ Abrams with two outs. After this hit, the pitcher gestured towards the dugout and expressed his frustration.

In his 4⅔ innings of work, Burnes allowed one run and four hits, issuing one walk and striking out six batters. So far, his record is 3-2 with an ERA of 2.66 in 11 starts this season.

The Diamondbacks signed Burnes to a six-year, $210 million contract before the season. At 30 years old, the pitcher has proven to be consistent in recent years. Since winning the National League Cy Young Award in 2021 with the Milwaukee Brewers, he has made at least 28 starts in each season.

To fill Burnes’ spot on the roster, the D-backs have called up left-handed pitcher Tommy Henry, who has appeared in one game this season, pitching 2⅔ innings without allowing any runs.
