Mbappé and Camavinga Back Xabi Alonso After Champions League Victory

Kylian Mbappé and Eduardo Camavinga have expressed their unconditional support for Xabi Alonso, following Real Madrid’s 4-3 victory in the Champions League against Olympiacos. The pressure on Alonso had increased after three consecutive winless matches, raising doubts about his relationship with key players in the team, including Vinícius Júnior, who had been a substitute on four occasions this season.

We have to protect the players, the coach, and the staff. In the end, we are all in this together.

Mbappé, after scoring four goals, including a hat-trick in seven minutes, insisted that the team and the coaching staff are “united”. Vinícius embraced Alonso during the celebrations at the Karaiskakis stadium. Before the match against Olympiacos, Real Madrid had lost 1-0 against Liverpool and drawn 0-0 against Rayo Vallecano and 2-2 against Elche in LaLiga, where Mbappé had not managed to score.

It was very important to win again. We know that three games without winning is a lot for a team like us. There are things to improve, of course… I’m not going to say that we are against the people from outside, but we are together, and I know that the fans are with us.

Camavinga also backed Alonso, stating that the team will do everything possible to help the coach. “The last few matches haven’t been so good, it’s true, because we haven’t won. We have to focus on the team’s mentality and move forward,” he added. The victory left Real Madrid with 12 points, in fifth place in the Champions League table, as they prepare to host Manchester City on December 10.

Winning this match was fundamental, especially if we want to finish in the top eight. We have to keep going like this, not everything will be perfect, but it’s better to go home with three more points.
