WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Athletics have made significant moves on their roster, placing Miguel Andújar and Gunnar Hoglund on the injured list. At the same time, they have called up JJ Bleday and Elvis Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Miguel Andújar, who plays third base and outfielder, has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. Before this injury, Andújar was maintaining a batting average of .296, with three home runs and 20 RBIs on the season.
Gunnar Hoglund, right-handed pitcher, was also placed on the injured list, but for 15 days and retroactive to Sunday. The reason is a left hip impingement. Hoglund had a 1-3 record with a 6.40 ERA in six starts before the injury. JJ Bleday, who started the season with the team, returns after being sent to Las Vegas on May 23. Before his demotion, Bleday was batting .204 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 47 games. In his six games with the Aviators, he recorded 10 hits in 27 at-bats, including a home run and six RBIs. Elvis Alvarado joins the team for the second time this season. In his first call-up on May 9, he allowed three runs in two and two-thirds innings in two appearances. With the Aviators, he has a 1-1 record with six saves and a 4.57 ERA.
