War Inaugurates the First Municipal Sports Games
In a festive and enthusiastic atmosphere, the Mayor’s Office of the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra launched the First Municipal Sports Games. This event, which brings together more than 1,500 local athletes, promises to be a milestone in the sports development of the community. The opening ceremony, held at the Padre Fernando Lora municipal sports center, marked the official start of the competitions, which will run until June 7. The first edition of these games is dedicated to Rafael Mariano Amador Álvarez, known as “Pipí”, in recognition of his outstanding career in the sports field.These Sports Games will become an annual tradition, because we have the human and leadership personnel to sustain this type of event.

Mayor Francisco Rojas García (César), who also chairs the Organizing Committee, highlighted the importance of these games as a key platform for sports and community development. During the opening ceremony, the presence of Deputy Mayor Mayra Moreno, Congressman Moisés Ortiz, the Director of Sports of Santo Domingo Province, Eduard Caraballo, and other relevant personalities was noted.
The opening day included a parade of the athletes through the streets surrounding the sports center, led by the mayor. In addition, the religious invocation, the National Anthem, and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron were performed, the latter in charge of the honoree “Pipí” Amador, who also received a recognition plaque for his sporting legacy.
The competing disciplines encompass a wide range of sports, including athletics, chess, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, softball, dominoes, checkers, and other recreational activities. Participating athletes range in age from 13 years old to older adults, depending on the modality.
The general organization of the games is under the direction of Bernardo Martínez, who worked closely with the mayor and other authorities during the awards ceremony.
