SYDNEY – Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, returned from retirement alongside his son Cruz in doubles at the New South Wales Open Challenger tournament, concluding Thursday with a quarterfinal loss.

Hewitt, 44 years old and former world number 1, who won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, and retired from the singles circuit in 2016, had partnered with his son Cruz, 16 years old, to defeat Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a score of 6-1, 6-0 on Wednesday.

However, the father-son team lost 7-5, 6-4 to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill in the quarterfinals.

Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children that Hewitt has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
