Cotuí, Liga Cristian Serrano and Liga Norma Díaz to the Final of the U10 National Championship
The representative teams of Cotuí, the Liga Cristiana Serrano (Pimentel) and the Liga Norma Díaz secured their place in the final of the 5th U10 National Championship “Copa Nelson Cruz”. The exciting contest will take place on Sunday, November 30th at the headquarters of the Dominican Republic Army, located on the Duarte Highway.
The tournament, organized by the Dominican Baseball Federation Inc. (Fedom), is dedicated to Mrs. Norma Díaz, a prominent figure in the sports field.
A total of 64 teams, made up of more than 1,152 players between 9 and 10 years old, began their participation last Sunday, November 9th. This event marks the closing of the development tournaments organized by Fedom, including the U6, U8 and U10 categories. These tournaments are by invitation and are designed for family enjoyment, allowing young talents to get started in the national sport.
La Liga Norma Díaz, Cristian Serrano de Pimentel and Cotuí stood out in their respective groups, leading and surpassing their opponents in the crossings. This gave them the right to compete for the coveted Nelson Cruz Cup starting at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 30th.The “Nelson Cruz” Cup
The main trophy was presented by Nelson Cruz, general manager of the Dominican team for the World Baseball Classic (WBC 206), who was accompanied by his son Neón Cruz. Cruz encouraged the youngsters to enjoy the game and pursue their dreams.
The players took the opportunity to share with Cruz and take photos with the former Major League player.
Cruz presented the champions’ trophy to Juan Núñez and the general secretary of Fedom, Erick Then.Recognition
During the championship, Fedom paid tribute to Mr. Abraham Key, World President of Pony Baseball And Softball, for his valuable work in the training and development of baseball at an international level.
Mr. Key expressed his gratitude and congratulated Fedom for the organization of the event, highlighting the importance of the U10 National Championship as a setting for this recognition.
The 5th National U10 Championship “Nelson Cruz Cup” is supported by Grupo de Medios Panorama, VTV Channel 32, the Economic Dining Halls of the Dominican State, the Dominican Republic Army, and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec).
