Dak Prescott Surpasses Tony Romo in Passing Yards and Climbs in Historical Statistics
In a challenging game for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott continues to make his mark on the franchise’s history. Despite a game with ups and downs, Prescott managed to surpass Tony Romo in passing yards. With a 9-yard connection with George Pickens in the third quarter of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott surpassed Romo’s 34,183 career passing yards. Prescott was only one yard away from reaching Romo’s mark after a 1-yard touchdown pass to Pickens at the end of the first half. The Cowboys’ performance in the first two quarters was irregular. They were stopped on the first possession on fourth down, CeeDee Lamb had his fifth fumble in two games against the Eagles, KaVontae Turpin lost the ball after tripping, and Prescott was intercepted in the end zone by Reed Blankenship, forcing a pass to Lamb. This season, Prescott became the franchise leader in completed passes (3,033 before Sunday). In addition, he ranks second in attempts, behind Troy Aikman (4,715), and in touchdown passes, surpassed by Romo (247). In last week’s victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, he became the third Cowboys quarterback to record at least 80 wins. Aikman leads with 94, followed by Hall of Famer Roger Staubach with 85. Prescott, who is in his tenth season as the Cowboys’ starter, was asked on Thursday about the possibility of becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in passes.“I feel honored. Grateful to be healthy and in this position to achieve it,” he said. “I was on the production call (with Fox) and they asked me the same thing, ‘Would I have thought this 10 years ago?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I was very arrogant as a rookie.’ When you’ve played this game long enough and can stay healthy, with my expectations of what my game is like, that’s supposed to happen. So I’m grateful, honored, and super grateful to be playing a game I love at this high level.”
