Chas McCormick to the Injured List with Oblique Injury

The Houston Astros have placed outfielder Chas McCormick on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.

The move is retroactive to Friday for McCormick, who is currently batting .256 with two RBIs in 36 games this season.

McCormick, 30, has a career batting average of .250, with 55 home runs and 193 RBIs in 472 games with the Astros. Simultaneously, Houston called up infielder Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land. Whitcomb, 26, is batting .275 with 18 home runs (leading the Pacific Coast League) and 38 RBIs in 53 games this season with the Space Cowboys.

Last season, Whitcomb batted .220 with five RBIs in 20 games with the Astros.
