Anthony Santander to the Injured List: Blue Jays Adjust Their Roster
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed star hitter Anthony Santander on the 10-day injured list this Friday. The reason behind this decision is inflammation in the player’s left shoulder, forcing the team to make adjustments to their lineup. To cover Santander’s absence, the team has called up outfielder Alan Roden from Triple-A Buffalo, thus reinforcing its roster with a player who has already had experience in the majors.
Santander, who signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract with Toronto in January, has had a challenging start to the season. In 50 games, his batting average is .179, with six home runs and 18 RBIs. The switch-hitter has dealt with hip and left shoulder discomfort in recent weeks, missing several games.
Last season, Santander stood out with the Orioles, where he hit 44 home runs, his personal best.
For his part, Roden returns to the Blue Jays after having participated in 28 games with the team earlier this season, his first in the Major Leagues. In those games, he batted .178 with a home run and five RBIs. Before being called up, Roden had an outstanding performance in Buffalo, where he batted .361 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 18 games.
