Anthony Yarde Seeks World Glory in His Third Attempt

Anthony Yarde is preparing for his third opportunity to be crowned world light heavyweight champion. After two previous attempts, Yarde is determined to prove his worth this Saturday. After valiant performances, Yarde (27-3, 24 KOs) was stopped by Artur Beterbiev and Sergey Kovalev in 2023 and 2019, respectively. The English boxer rebuilt his career after those setbacks and now challenges American David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) for the WBC belt in Saudi Arabia. Just like when he faced the tough punchers Beterbiev and Kovalev, Yarde is the underdog this weekend, but he believes he has improved since those defeats. Yarde, 34, from London, was stopped in eight rounds by Beterbiev, after lasting 11 rounds against Kovalev.

Yarde emphasizes that experience is the key to his evolution. He believes that if he fought Beterbiev again, the result would be different. “In this fight, you will see a better version of me. I know when to accelerate and when to slow down,” he stated. Yarde also acknowledged that he learned a lot from his fight with Beterbiev, noting that it exposed weaknesses in his opponent that others could take advantage of.

Benavidez, who will make his first title defense against the Londoner in Riyadh. In his last fight in February, Benavidez recovered from a late knockdown to win a unanimous decision over David Morell. Yarde has won four fights since the defeat against Beterbiev and his last fight was in April, when he overcame Lyndon Arthur by unanimous decision in a trilogy.
