Shohei Ohtani Incorporates Curveballs in His Recovery

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has begun incorporating breaking pitches into his training sessions, marking a significant step forward in his recovery following elbow surgery.

The right-handed pitcher, who had previously been limited to throwing fastballs and splitters, is working hard to return to the mound this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Ohtani is getting closer to facing live hitters for the first time since undergoing his second Tommy John surgery in September 2023.

“He’s progressing,” Roberts stated. “I’m not sure when he’ll incorporate the slider from flat ground to the bullpen, but it’s progress.”

Ohtani is expected to return to the mound around the All-Star break in July.

Regarding his offensive performance, Ohtani is batting .312 and led Major League Baseball with 17 home runs before Tuesday’s games.
