Arteta demands reinforcements for Arsenal in the summer market

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s coach, has urged the club’s board to take significant measures in the next transfer market. The main goal is to turn the team into Premier League champions.

The 1-0 victory over Newcastle United secured Arsenal’s qualification for the Champions League and second place in the table. This, barring a drastic change with Manchester City on the final day, after Liverpool were crowned champions last month.

It will be the third consecutive campaign in which Arsenal finishes as runners-up, which increases the pressure on the club to act in the next transfer window and strengthen its squad.

The new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been appointed with the aim of helping Arsenal reach the next level. When asked how significant this summer will be, Arteta stated:

“Finish the season, go to the beach, enjoy a few days and make sure those above do what they have to do.”

Arsenal also plan to hold contract talks with Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Miles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, while Thomas Partey’s current contract expires at the end of the season.

During his post-match press conference, Arteta continued:

“We have to be very intelligent with the decisions we make. Obviously, we need players because the squad is really short, and on top of that we are losing four or five players who are going to end their contracts, and their loans have ended. So we have to be agile. Again, very disciplined in what we want to do, and make sure we are strong in the next season.

The plan is made and the moment will be dictated by many parts, many circumstances that, unfortunately, we do not control. But we have great people in charge of that, and they are going to lead that with the board and the ownership. And also, to make sure that those we have feel valued, feel loved, and we make sure they want to continue with us in the right way.

When addressing the fans on the field at the end of the match, Arteta said: “We had a dream. It was to be here today or in a week and bring you the big trophies. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to do it for many circumstances. But make sure that pursuing a dream doesn’t become blurred and don’t ignore what these players, this staff, this football club are doing. Make sure you pursue the dream with enthusiasm and positivity next season.”
