Kahleah Copper, Phoenix Mercury star, out with injury

Phoenix Mercury star guard Kahleah Copper will undergo a left knee arthroscopy and will be out for four to six weeks.

The team announced Copper’s situation before their victory in the season opener against the Seattle Storm, where they won 81-59.

In addition, forward/center Natasha Mack will be out for two to three weeks due to a lower back injury.

Both players had already been ruled out for the opening match and were previously listed as day-to-day.

Copper, a nine-season veteran and 30 years old, was the WNBA’s third-leading scorer last season, averaging 21.1 points per game in her first season with the Mercury. She was only surpassed by A’ja Wilson and Arike Ogunbowale.

Copper was expected to be one of the main figures for the Mercury this season, especially after the retirement of Diana Taurasi and the departures of Brittney Griner, Natasha Cloud, and Sophie Cunningham.

Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, two of the team’s key additions in the preseason, scored a combined 47 points in Phoenix’s Saturday victory.
