Max Homa Resurges at the PGA Championship After Radical Changes
In the last twelve months, Max Homa has implemented significant changes in his golfing life. This week, at Quail Hollow Country Club, the scene of his victory at the 2019 Wells Fargo Invitational, Homa seeks to regain his best form.
One of the most notable changes is the incorporation of Bill Harke as his new caddie, replacing his long-time friend, Joe Greiner. In addition, Homa has renewed his equipment and clothing, and has modified his training team, moving from Mark Blackburn to John Scott Rattan.
“I wouldn’t recommend changing your clubs and your coach at the same time, or your swing,” Homa commented.

These changes coincided with a difficult period for Homa, which included five consecutive missed cuts. However, in the second round of the PGA Championship, Homa achieved his best performance since the 2023 BMW Championship, with a round of 64 strokes, which propelled him into contention.
The key to this resurgence was not a single solution, but a combination of adjustments and commitment. Homa collaborated with Cobra, his new equipment sponsor, to optimize the configuration of his driver, which allowed him to improve his swing and increase ball speed.
In the first part of the round, Homa achieved an impressive 30, thanks to four birdies and an eagle. At the end of the round, he had climbed 70 positions, placing third and leading in strokes gained: driving.
Homa’s satisfaction was evident, showing a smile as he left the 18th hole. His caddie, Harke, highlighted the importance of this performance for Homa’s confidence.
Although the future is uncertain, Homa’s performance at the PGA Championship is a validation of his hard work. In addition, the Quail Hollow course, where he has had success in the past, provides him with comfort.
“I needed to find some comfort. This place gives it to me,” Homa said.
