Facundo Bagnis, provisionally suspended for doping

Argentine tennis player Facundo Bagnis has begun a voluntary provisional suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) made the announcement this Thursday.

The test was conducted during the US Open qualifying phase in August. Bagnis, 35, was notified of the result this month and chose to begin the provisional suspension last week.

At the US Open, Bagnis suffered his sixth consecutive defeat in the Grand Slam qualifying rounds.

In 2016, Bagnis reached his best position in the ATP ranking, placing at number 55.

If a sanction is determined, the provisional suspension period will be counted as time served.
