Ar’Darius Washington Suffers Injury That Puts His Season at Risk

Baltimore Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while doing conditioning exercises, a source confirmed. This injury puts his participation in the 2025 season in jeopardy.

Washington, who had an outstanding season, including the playoffs, where he played in 12 games, the most in his career. He was expected to play a crucial role in the defense, even after Baltimore selected Malaki Starks in the first round of last month’s draft.

After not being selected in the 2021 draft, Washington overcame a career start marked by injuries and his height (5 feet 8 inches, 180 pounds) to become one of Baltimore’s biggest surprises last season. He stabilized a secondary that was struggling, replacing Marcus Williams in Week 8.

With Washington as the starter in the last 10 games, the Ravens allowed 214 passing yards, which placed them eighth in the NFL during that period.

“Ar’Darius is a great example of a player who got an opportunity and took advantage of it,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in January.

Last season, 25-year-old Washington recorded a career-high 64 tackles, in addition to two interceptions and eight passes defended. Known for making big plays, he forced a fumble by Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson inside the Ravens’ 5-yard line in Week 16 and stopped Texans running back Joe Mixon a yard short of the end zone on fourth-and-goal in Week 17.

As a restricted free agent, Washington signed his offer on April 21, which guaranteed him a salary of $3.263 million this season.

This is the third significant injury in Washington’s five-year career. He missed the final seven games of the 2021 season with a foot injury and then was out 15 games in 2023 after suffering a chest injury.
