John Terry, Chelsea legend, has expressed his desire to manage the club that saw him grow. After a successful playing career, the former captain has as his “ultimate dream” to become the team’s coach.
Terry, who defended Chelsea’s colors for 22 years, became the most successful captain in the club’s history, guiding the team to glory in the Champions League and the Premier League.
The footballer, who played 717 matches with Chelsea, was only surpassed by Ron Harris in terms of matches played. Terry shared a dressing room with coaches of the stature of José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte.
Terry’s experience and leadership suggest he could be a natural candidate to lead Chelsea, although that opportunity has not materialized so far.
His former teammate and close friend, Frank Lampard, had two spells as Chelsea manager, with mixed results. Terry retired after 22 years as a player and stated that he learned enough to dedicate himself to coaching, considering the level at which he played and the coaches he had.
The former Chelsea player left the club in 2017 to join Aston Villa. After a season at Villa Park, Terry dedicated himself to coaching.
