Santo Domingo – Los Toros del Este have defined their pitching rotation for the second week of the 2025-2026 autumn-winter baseball tournament, and confirmed the expected debut of Eloy Jiménez, one of the key offensive figures of the team.

Defined Rotation

Leader Víctor Estévez announced that lefty Matt Dermody will start on Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium against the Tigres del Licey, marking the beginning of a two-game mini-series. Nicaraguan Carlos Rodríguez will take the mound on Wednesday, when the blues return the visit at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana. After a day of rest on Thursday, the Toros will face the Gigantes del Cibao on Friday, with Aaron Sánchez scheduled to pitch. Sánchez is coming off a standout performance against the Leones del Escogido, where he limited the offense to a single hit in five scoreless innings, with no walks and seven strikeouts. On Saturday, in La Romana, Aaron Brooks will make his first start of the season after missing his previous turn due to a virus. The week will conclude on Sunday with Richelson Peña facing Escogido again at the Micheli. Peña pitched four innings allowing one earned run in his first outing against the Estrellas Orientales.

The Debut of “Big Baby”

The main news for this Tuesday is the debut of Eloy Jiménez, who will play for the first time with the Taurino uniform against the Licey. Jiménez, known as “Big Baby”, was acquired last season in a trade with the Leones del Escogido. Jiménez, 28 years old, will participate in his fourth season in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), after three successful seasons with the Gigantes del Cibao, where he accumulated a batting average of .346/.420/.571, with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 36 games. In the Major Leagues, the outfielder has 95 home runs and 298 RBIs in six seasons with the Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles, with a batting average of .269 in 534 games. With the incorporation of Jiménez and the solid announced rotation, the Toros del Este will seek to maintain the good pace in the tournament, dedicated to Juan Marichal, and consolidate as one of the most competitive teams in the championship.
