Tommy Fleetwood Conquers the India Championship with a Spectacular Comeback
In a display of exceptional play, Tommy Fleetwood capped off an outstanding season by securing victory at the India Championship. The English golfer unleashed an impressive streak of four consecutive birdies that allowed him to take the lead and seal the triumph with a score of 7 under par and a total of 65 strokes. This triumph marks the third major celebration for Fleetwood in the last three months, adding to his victory in the FedEx Cup and his outstanding participation in the Ryder Cup, where he led the European team. Keita Nakajima, who started the final round with a two-stroke lead, played without making mistakes. However, he couldn’t keep up the pace against Fleetwood’s overwhelming performance.Despite his successes on the PGA Tour, Fleetwood was looking to add a victory on the European Tour to his record. This triumph, the eighth of his career, moves him from 94th to 25th in the Race to Dubai, guaranteeing him a place in the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Tour Championship in Dubai. Fleetwood’s joy was completed by the presence of his 8-year-old son Frankie, who ran to celebrate on the 18th hole green. Nakajima, for his part, had difficulties with precision in his tee shots in the final phase, although he managed to maintain competitiveness thanks to his putts. He finished with 69 strokes, rising to the top 10 of players on the European Tour eligible to obtain PGA Tour cards next year. Shane Lowry, Thriston Lawrence, and Alex Fitzpatrick shared third place with a total of 270 strokes. Rory McIlroy, in his first participation in India, finished in 26th place.“I feel that, despite all the good things that have happened this year, some things have disappointed me,” commented Fleetwood, who had not yet won on the European Tour. “Another victory, it feels great.”
