Angels Prospect George Klassen in Recovery After Being Hit by a Line Drive

SAN DIEGO – Right-handed pitcher George Klassen, one of the top prospects for the Los Angeles Angels, is showing improvement a day after being apparently hit in the head by a batted ball.

Klassen suffered the injury on Sunday while pitching for the Rocket City Trash Pandas, a Double-A team. The batted ball appeared to hit him in the head, leaving him lying on the mound during the fourth inning of a Southern League game against Montgomery.

The player needed help from the manager and athletic trainer to leave the field. Although he was still undergoing further tests on Monday, the team reported that Klassen was awake and alert, and his condition was improving.

Manager Ron Washington stated he had no updates on Monday before the Angels began their series against the San Diego Padres.

Klassen is one of the most promising players in the Angels’ farm system. The team acquired the 23-year-old last summer when they traded closer Carlos Estevez to Philadelphia, who selected Klassen in the sixth round in 2023.

Klassen is 1-3 with a 4.97 ERA for Rocket City, striking out 36 batters in 29 innings.
