Austin, Texas – The United States Grand Prix witnessed a shocking incident on the first lap, where McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were involved in a crash that took them out of the race. The incident, which occurred at the first turn, also involved Sauber driver Nico Hülkenberg, who hit Piastri’s car, causing it to collide with Norris’s. Norris was forced to abandon the race immediately, while Piastri also had to retire, apparently due to suspension damage.
Teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri crashed on the opening lap of the U.S. Grand Prix sprint race.
Norris, when interviewed, stated that he had no idea what had happened.

What else was I supposed to do? I need to analyze it further. I was hit, taken out of the race, so I couldn’t do much.

Lando Norris
Piastri, for his part, commented that he had not seen the incident from the television cameras.

I had a good exit. We were very deep into Turn 1, I tried to cut and I got hit. Not the best way to start the day, but I need to see it again.

Max Verstappen took advantage of the situation to close the gap. Verstappen won the sprint race, adding eight points and getting closer to the McLaren leaders. McLaren has emphasized that Verstappen remains a significant competitor in the fight for the championship.
