Chelsea forward Cole Palmer will be out for “six more weeks” due to a groin injury, according to manager Enzo Maresca, announced on Friday. Previously, Maresca had indicated that Palmer could return after this month’s international break, as he had avoided the need for surgery. I was mistaken, unfortunately, it needs to be out for six more weeks. That’s the update. Maresca also added:

We try to protect Cole as much as we can. The most important thing is that when he returns he is completely fit.

The coach went on to say that the medical staff is not “magical” and that the recovery time is uncertain, hoping that six weeks will be enough. Palmer is relaxed and is following the necessary therapy. Palmer left the field after 21 minutes in Chelsea’s defeat against Manchester United last month and hasn’t played since then in a season marked by injuries, in which he has only started in two matches in all competitions. Meanwhile, Moisés Caicedo, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández are doubtful due to injury for the match against Nottingham Forest this weekend, when the Premier League returns. However, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Andrey Santos are ready to return. Replacing Cole is difficult because he is a very important player for us, probably one of the best in the Premier League. Replacing that type of player is always difficult. Maresca explained that different tactical solutions will be sought, as there is no other player like Palmer, who is “unique”.

One option could be to turn to the Brazilian teenager Estêvão, who has had limited use so far while adapting to English football, but whose winning goal in added time against the champions could be key to transforming the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge after a slow start to the season.
