Jason Kidd Secures His Future with the Mavericks

Coach Jason Kidd has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced on Tuesday. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Our entire organization deeply appreciates Coach Kidd’s leadership, focus, and positive energy,” said team governor Patrick Dumont.

Dumont added that Kidd embodies the values the organization seeks in a leader and that they are happy he will continue to lead the team. They are confident that he will continue to guide the Mavericks with dedication as they pursue the goal of winning championships for Dallas. This extension comes after the interest shown by Kidd on the part of the New York Knicks, before they hired Mike Brown to fill his coaching vacancy. The Mavericks denied the Knicks’ request to interview Kidd, who has a record of 179-149 during his four years in Dallas. Under Kidd’s direction, the Mavs reached the Western Conference finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024.

“I am grateful for the trust that Patrick and General Manager Nico Harrison have placed in me, and for the confidence we have built while working together to build a team that Dallas can be proud of,” Kidd said in a statement.

Kidd highlighted that the team has a great group of talented and coachable players who love basketball. In addition, he expressed his excitement to continue coaching the team that drafted him, where he won a title as a player. Kidd looks forward to the future and continuing to work to bring another championship to Dallas. Kidd’s previous contract extension occurred during Dallas’ participation in the 2024 playoffs, when the Los Angeles Lakers showed interest in interviewing him.
