Janibek Alimkhanuly vs. Erislandy Lara: Clash of Titans in December
An anticipated unification fight in the middleweight category between Janibek Alimkhanuly and Erislandy Lara is scheduled for December 6th. The event will take place at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, as part of the Lamont Roach Jr. vs. Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz card, broadcast on Prime Video.
Alimkhanuly, currently the IBF and WBO champion, will face Lara, who holds the WBA title. The fight promises to be a key match-up in the division.
Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) comes to this fight after his victory in September 2024 over Danny Garcia. At 42 years old, the Cuban is the oldest champion in boxing and remains undefeated in his last seven fights. His last defeat was in 2018 against Jarrett Hurd.
For his part, Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round victory over Anauel Ngamissengue in April. The Kazakh boxer has finished ten of his last eleven opponents before the limit and has defended the WBO title since 2022. In 2023, he added the IBF belt to his collection after knocking out Vincenzo Gualtieri. Lara will represent a significant challenge for Alimkhanuly, who seeks to add the WBA title to his collection.
