Nick Mangold, Former Jets Player, Needs a Kidney Transplant

Former New York Jets center Nick Mangold has made public his need for a kidney transplant due to chronic kidney disease diagnosed in 2006. Mangold, 41 years old and a member of the Jets’ Ring of Honor, shared his situation through social media and an official team statement.

“This is not an easy message to share, but I want to be open about what’s happening with my health,” Mangold stated.

Mangold revealed that he has gone through a “difficult summer” and is currently on dialysis.

“I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time,” he commented.

The former player also reported that he has no family members available to donate at this time, so he requested the support of the Jets community. “I need a kidney donor with blood type O,” she added.

Mangold went on to say: “This situation has reminded me how fortunate I am to have such an incredible family, friends, and community behind me. Although it has been a difficult time, I remain positive and focused on the path ahead. I look forward to better days and getting back in shape soon. I’ll see you all very soon at MetLife Stadium.” Selected in the first round of the 2006 draft, Mangold quickly became one of the Jets’ most beloved players. He earned the affection of teammates and fans thanks to his tenacity and approachable personality. He was selected for seven Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro twice. Mangold played his entire career with the Jets, from 2006 to 2016.
