The 2024-25 season is in its final stages, with the battles for the main honors, European qualification, relegation and promotion reaching their peak.
Here’s a rundown of what’s at stake and what could be decided this weekend in the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, Spanish LaLiga, Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1.
This page will be updated until the end of the European season.

Premier League
Última jornada: 25 de mayo
Title
Liverpool (82 points) was confirmed as champion on April 27, with four matchdays to spare.
Champions League (5)
CONFIRMED
- Liverpool (35 partidos jugados, 82 puntos)
In 2025-26, the Premier League will have five teams in the Champions League due to the performance of its clubs in Europe this season, meaning the top five will qualify for the UCL.
Liverpool has already secured its place, and Arsenal (67 points) is about to seal theirs. They need a maximum of three points to guarantee it.
Of the seven teams in the fight for the Champions League, only Nottingham Forest could miss out on any kind of European football, although they only need one point to secure it.
Five teams are battling for the remaining three spots, with only three matches left to play. Manchester City (65 points, 36 matches played), Newcastle United (63) and Chelsea (63) are currently occupying them. Aston Villa (63 points, 36 matches played) and Nottingham Forest (61) will try to make their way into those key positions.
Man City’s surprising draw at last-placed Southampton on Saturday has made them vulnerable. Villa took advantage with a 1-0 victory in their difficult trip to Bournemouth.
On Sunday, Newcastle and Chelsea face off at St. James’ Park, so Forest, who host Leicester City (second-to-last) later that day, are guaranteed ground with a win.
Chelsea must also head to Forest on the final day, which could be a winner-takes-all UCL showdown.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur face each other in the Europa League final on May 21. The winners will qualify for the Champions League, which means the Premier League will have six teams in the Champions League and nine in Europe.

Europa League (2)
As things stand, sixth-placed (Villa) will enter the Europa League based on league position, and will go to one of those teams in the Champions League section.
The sixth will join the FA Cup winners, with Crystal Palace facing Man City in the final on May 17.
If Palace, which is twelfth, wins the FA Cup, then there will be no effect on the league positions; the Eagles will be in the Europa League.
If Man City wins it and finishes in the top six, the FA Cup’s Europa League spot will go to seventh, most likely to the last of the teams in the UCL race. However, if Bournemouth beats Villa, they would be four points behind seventh place, which could make it interesting.
If Chelsea wins the Conference League, they are also in the final on May 28, they are guaranteed at least a place in the Europa League, but will play in the Champions League if they finish in the top five. Their final position could also influence the allocation of European places.

Conference League (1)
Newcastle is guaranteed at least a place in the Conference League play-off round, as they won the Carabao Cup. But if Newcastle finishes in the top six, to play in the UCL or UEL, the Conference League place goes to seventh. If Man City wins the FA Cup, the Conference League play-off round place goes to eighth, so it’s a position worth fighting for.
With the FA Cup final taking place before most of the Premier League returns to play, those in contention will know if it’s still in play.
Brentford’s (55 points, 36 matches played) and Brighton & Hove Albion’s (55 points, 36 matches played) victories on Saturday have placed them in pole position in eighth and ninth place, with AFC Bournemouth (53 points, 36 matches played) suffering that losing home defeat to Villa. Fulham (51 points, 36 matches played) lost at home to Everton, so their challenge is failing.
Fulham have a route back in, as they travel to Brentford next weekend. Brighton have a tough match against champions Liverpool, while Bournemouth have to face Man City.
If Brentford can win next weekend, they may effectively secure eighth place with their vastly superior goal difference, but will it matter?
Descent (3)
CONFIRMED
- 18. Ipswich (36, 22)
- 19. Leicester (35, 21)
- 20. Southampton (36, 12)
Southampton (12), Leicester City (21), and Ipswich Town (22) have been relegated.
Leeds United and Burnley have been promoted to the top flight from the Championship; another team will be promoted through the play-offs. Sheffield United, Sunderland, Coventry City and Bristol City have booked the play-off places, with the final taking place on May 24.
LaLiga
Última jornada: 25 de mayo
Title
There are four games left to play, and it’s a crucial weekend in the title race.
Barcelona (79 points) has a four-point lead over Real Madrid (75) and the two teams will face each other at Barça’s temporary stadium, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, on Sunday, in what appears to be a must-win match for the Whites.
If Real Madrid can get the three points, a path to the title could open up, as Barcelona will have to play against Villarreal and Athletic Club, who are chasing the Champions League, in their last two matches.

Champions League (5)
CONFIRMED
- Barcelona (34, 79)
- Real Madrid (34, 75)
Like the Premier League, LaLiga will have five teams in the Champions League next season.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have already secured their presence in the competition, while Atlético de Madrid (67) is almost there, with a maximum of 70 points needed. The victory at home against Real Sociedad on Saturday makes them cross the line.
Athletic Club (61) in fourth place is the favorite to qualify, although they have work to do.
So it looks like it will be a direct battle for the last UCL spot between Villarreal (58) in fifth place and Real Betis (57) in sixth.
Villarreal travels to Girona on Saturday and can temporarily move up to fourth place. On Sunday, Athletic Club hosts Alavés and Betis hosts Osasuna.

Europa League (2)
As Barcelona won the Copa del Rey, the cup’s place transfers to the league: the sixth and seventh will enter the Europa League. One place will go to Athletic Club, Villarreal or Real Betis in sixth place, but there is a close race for seventh.
On Saturday, Celta de Vigo and Valencia secured victories to apply pressure.
Celta de Vigo (49 points, 35 matches) is seventh, followed by Rayo Vallecano (47 points, 35 matches), Valencia (45 points, 35 matches), Osasuna (44), Mallorca (44) and Real Sociedad (43).
Real Sociedad faces that tough trip to Atlético on Saturday, and on Sunday night Osasuna faces the away match at Betis.
Real Betis is in the Conference League final, with the competition earning a spot in the Europa League, but to impact the LaLiga allocation they would have to finish eighth or below, which cannot happen.
Europa Conference League (1)
This will go to eighth place, currently occupied by Osasuna, with the same list of teams fighting as indicated in the Europa League section.
Descent (3)
CONFIRMED
- 20. Real Valladolid (34, 16)
Real Valladolid (16) has been relegated, and it seems to be a battle between four clubs for the last two spots. Leganés (31) and Las Palmas (32, 35 matches) are trying to get out of trouble with Alavés (35) in greater danger.
Las Palmas failed to advance on Friday night, suffering a home defeat against Rayo Vallecano, with Leganés (at home against Espanyol) and Alavés (away against Athletic Club) playing on Sunday.
Sevilla (38 points, 35 matches) and Girona (38) probably have enough margin to avoid a surprise relegation, but Sevilla hosts Las Palmas on Tuesday, so a defeat would change the situation a bit. It’s also Leganés against Las Palmas on the penultimate weekend.
Elche looks strong to occupy one of the two direct promotion spots in LaLiga2.
Levante, Racing de Santander, Real Oviedo, Mirandés and Almería are fighting for second place. A third team goes up through the play-offs of four teams.
Bundesliga
Última jornada: 17 de mayo
Title
Bayern Munich (79 points, 33 matches) won the title on May 4.

Champions League (4)
CONFIRMED
- Bayern Munich (33, 79)
- Bayer Leverkusen (32, 68)
Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen (68) have already secured their places.
Now it’s a three-horse race for the last two spots, and both will be confirmed if Borussia Dortmund (51) in fifth place loses in Leverkusen in the first match on Sunday.
Eintracht Frankfurt (56) are in a very solid position, needing a maximum of two points to secure UCL football. They host St. Pauli on Sunday, although if Dortmund draw or lose, they will be set before they kick off.
SC Freiburg (55 points, 33 matches) is in fourth place after relegating Holstein Kiel on Saturday. They need Dortmund to lose to confirm their place this matchday.

Europa League (2)
Only the fifth place (Dortmund, as it is) will be in this competition.
Waiting for Dortmund’s result to see what they need on the final matchday, or if they are out of contention, are Mainz (51 points, 33 matches) and RB Leipzig (51 points, 33 matches).
For the second season in a row, the DFB Pokal final will see a Bundesliga club face a team from a lower league. Last season, Leverkusen defeated then-struggling 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern.
This time, VfB Stuttgart will play against Arminia Bielefeld, who, incredibly, are in the third division. The winners of the final will qualify for the Europa League.
Stuttgart is in tenth place with 44 points and will not finish in the top six, so there will be no transfer of the place to the league if they win the cup. If Arminia Bielefeld, who is second in the 3. Liga, produces a surprise victory in the final, they will play in the Europa League as a second or third division club.
Conference League (1)
The sixth-placed team (now Mainz) will enter the Conference League play-off round. While Werder Bremen (48 points, 33 matches) has a mathematical chance, their goal difference of -6 means they are out of the running.
There is no path to Europe for the seventh or eighth, as happened last season.
Descent (2+1)
Two teams are automatically relegated, while the third from the bottom faces the third from the 2. Bundesliga in a play-off.
CONFIRMED
- Holstein Kiel (33, 25)
- VfL Bochum (33, 22)
VfL Bochum (22 points, 33 matches played) and Holstein Kiel (25 points, 33 matches played) were relegated when they lost to Mainz and Freiburg respectively on Saturday, with 1. FC Heidenheim’s (29 points, 33 matches played) victory against Union Berlin, which took them out of the relegation zone.
Heidenheim could still move out of the play-off spot on the final matchday, although that will depend on whether St. Pauli (31) defeats Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. If St. Pauli wins, Heidenheim has very little chance of surpassing TSG Hoffenheim (32 points, 33 matches) due to the goal difference.
In the 2. Bundesliga, Hamburg and FC Cologne occupy the top two positions, with SV 07 Elversberg in third place and hoping to mount a late challenge.
Hamburg will occupy one of the two direct promotion spots if they win at home against Ulm on Saturday. FC Cologne will go into the final matchday with a three-point lead over Elversberg and Paderborn, but the two chasers have a better goal difference.
Serie A
Última jornada: 25 de mayo
Title
The close race for the title between Inter Milan (74) and Napoli (77) continues with three matchdays remaining.
Both teams play on Sunday against mid-table rivals, with Inter at Torino and Napoli hosting Genoa.
If the two teams finish with the same points, there will be a single-match play-off, organized by the club with the best goal difference, to decide the Scudetto.
Champions League (4)
CONFIRMED
- Naples (35, 77)
- Inter Milan (35, 74)
Napoli and Inter have secured their places, but the fight for the last spots is intense, with a maximum of 73 points needed.
Bologna lost to AC Milan on Friday (a dress rehearsal for the Coppa Italia final) to seriously dent their hopes of finishing in the top four.
On Saturday, Lazio snatched a point from their home match against Juve with a goal in the 96th minute. It may not be enough for Lazio, as they must travel to Inter next weekend.
With three matches remaining, Atalanta (68) looks strong in third place, with Juventus (64 points, 36 matches) in fourth place, but there is a chasing group: Lazio (64 points, 36 matches), AS Roma (63), Bologna (62 points, 36 matches) and, as outsiders, Fiorentina (59).
On Monday, Atalanta hosts Roma and that result will have a big impact. Fiorentina plays first in Venezia, if they win and Roma doesn’t get the three points later, La Viola returns to the contest.
If Inter wins the Champions League, there will be no impact on the Serie A spots.

Europa League (2)
The fifth-place team (Roma, as it stands) will play in the Europa League, which will also be a battle between the clubs mentioned above.
The Coppa Italia final pits Bologna against AC Milan on May 14, 11 days before the end of the league season. Milan (60 points, 36 matches) is eighth (above Fiorentina after winning on Friday) and is fighting to qualify for Europe, but is now only two points behind Bologna in seventh place; even so, winning the Coppa Italia could be their best hope.
The sixth-placed team (now Lazio) in the league will earn a place in the Europa League if Bologna wins the final and finishes in the top five.
Conference League (1)
Currently, this goes to sixth place (Lazio), subject to whether Bologna wins the Coppa Italia and where they finish.
If Bologna lifts the trophy and finishes in the top six, the seventh-placed team will be in the Conference League play-off round. If so, that actually gives AC Milan a good opportunity.
Descent (3)
CONFIRMED
- 20. Monza (35, 15)
Monza (15) was relegated last month after losing 2-0 to Juventus.
It’s a fierce battle for the last two places between Empoli (25), Venezia (26) and Lecce (27).
On Saturday, Empoli plays at home against Parma and can move out of the relegation zone with a win. On Sunday, Venezia faces Fiorentina and Lecce faces Hellas Verona.
In Serie B, Sassuolo and Pisa have been promoted. One of the six clubs will also go up through the end-of-season play-offs. Spezia, Cremonese, Juve Stabia, Catanzaro and Palermo have booked five of the six places with one matchday to go.
Ligue 1
Última jornada: 17 de mayo
Title
Paris Saint-Germain (78) easily secured the title on April 5.
If PSG wins the Champions League, there will be no impact on the Ligue 1 standings.

Champions League (3+1)
France gets three automatic spots, and the fourth-placed team enters the UCL in the third qualifying round.
CONFIRMED
- Paris Saint-Germain (32, 78)
It’s a very, very close battle in France, with six clubs realistically contending to play in the Champions League alongside PSG. There are only two matchdays left.
Marseille (59) and AS Monaco (58) occupy the league phase positions, with Nice (57) in the qualifying round position.
The trio is being chased by Lille (57) after they beat PSG on Saturday, plus Strasbourg (57) and Lyon (54).
The nine matches are played simultaneously on Saturday evening, with Lyon’s trip to Monaco in a big UCL clash, and it’s a must-win for OL.
Marseille is in Le Havre knowing that a victory could make them cross the line, depending on other results. Nice travels to Stade Rennais, Lille goes to Brest and the Estr
