Magic Johnson to Lead 2026 Rose Parade

NBA legend Magic Johnson has been named Grand Marshal for next year’s 137th Rose Parade. The iconic 66-year-old basketball figure will parade down Colorado Boulevard as part of the 5.5-mile route on January 1st.

I’m going to be waving like crazy to all the great fans. The Rose Parade is watched even more than the football game. Wow, a lot of pressure.

Johnson will also participate in the coin toss for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the 112th Rose Bowl, which will be held on the same day. The Tournament of Roses President, Mark Leavens, announced Johnson’s participation in the 2026 parade, whose central theme will be “The Magic of Teamwork”. Johnson, who grew up in Lansing, Michigan, remembered the excitement of watching the parade every New Year.

Who would have thought that I would be the Grand Marshal? I am glad that my mother is still alive to witness this special day that is coming on New Year’s Day. This is a true blessing for me.

Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for sharing this experience with his children and grandchildren. Your choice follows that of Billie Jean King, tennis star and Hall of Famer, who was this year’s Grand Marshal. Johnson, who has been an NBA champion five times with the Los Angeles Lakers, three-time league MVP, and gold medalist with the United States “Dream Team” at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
