Cooper Flagg Shines in Mavericks Debut
FORT WORTH, Texas – Star rookie Cooper Flagg, selected as the number one draft pick, showcased his versatility in his preseason debut with the Dallas Mavericks. Flagg, known for his ability to influence the game in various ways, left a notable mark in the Mavericks’ victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 106-89 at the Dickies Arena. In just 14 minutes of play, the 18-year-old accumulated 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block, showcasing a comprehensive performance.All of Flagg’s points came in a span of two minutes and 38 seconds during the second quarter. After getting a defensive rebound, Flagg sped forward to score a layup. Subsequently, he hit a three-pointer and also scored two free throws after being fouled and another three-pointer off the dribble. The player was 3 of 6 in field goals and 2 of 3 from the three-point line. In addition, he committed no turnovers, handling the ball safely and taking on point guard responsibilities at times.“It’s fun to play this type of basketball, when the ball moves around. It was fun”, commented Flagg.

One of Flagg’s most outstanding moments occurred 85 seconds into the game, when he blocked a layup attempt by Isaiah Joe, which triggered a counterattack culminating in a dunk by Anthony Davis.“I just take what the defense gives me. Keep it simple, make the right play, whether it’s a pass or a shot, whatever,” Flagg explained.

The current champions, the Thunder, did not have their regular starters on this preseason trip.“We were able to see his defense, his ability to create plays, and then his scoring. He was really, really good,” said Mavs coach Jason Kidd.
