Lamont Roach Jr. to move up in weight to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz

The current WBA junior lightweight champion, Lamont Roach Jr., will move up to 140 pounds to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC interim super lightweight title. The fight will take place on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio and will be televised on pay-per-view via Prime Video. Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) changed course after a proposed rematch in August with Gervonta “Tank” Davis was canceled. Instead of waiting for the result of the fight between Davis and Jake Paul, Roach will seek to become interim champion at 140 pounds, marking his third consecutive fight in a different weight category. Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) lost by decision to Davis in December 2021. Since then, he has accumulated a 6-1 record, winning the vacant WBC super lightweight title in his last fight, where he defeated Omar Salcido in July. The Cruz team, originally from Mexico City, considers this fight an opportunity to become the next big star in their country, calling it “the most important fight of their career.”

This is the most important moment Isaac Cruz has had in his career.

Sean Gibbons, Cruz’s manager
Cruz’s manager, Sean Gibbons, added that Mexico is looking for a new figure in boxing after Canelo Álvarez’s defeat, and they hope this fight will propel Cruz to that position.
