Dustin Poirier, although retired from mixed martial arts, is seriously considering a boxing match against Nate Diaz. Poirier, 36, retired from the UFC in July after his last fight against Max Holloway in Louisiana. Despite having made it clear that he would not fight again, he surprised everyone with a statement on social media.
The fight between Poirier and Diaz was scheduled for 2018 in the UFC, but it never materialized. Both fighters blame each other for the cancellation. Poirier claimed that Diaz’s lengthy negotiations with the UFC were the main reason, while Diaz accused Poirier of withdrawing due to injuries. Diaz, 40, left the UFC in 2022 and debuted in professional boxing against Jake Paul in 2023, losing by unanimous decision. His last appearance was against Jorge Masvidal in July 2024, whom he defeated. Diaz has expressed interest in returning to the UFC at some point. He has not yet responded to Poirier’s proposal.Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds, me and Nathaniel, I would do it.
