Alcaraz Overcomes Injury and Advances in the Japan Open
Tokyo – World number one Carlos Alcaraz suffered an ankle injury, but showed his tenacity by recovering and defeating Sebastian Baez with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the Japan Open on Thursday. The incident occurred in the first set, when the score was tied 2-2. Alcaraz, visibly affected, grabbed his left ankle, causing concern among those present.Despite the initial scare, Alcaraz managed to continue the match after receiving medical assistance and having his ankle bandaged. The Spanish tennis player expressed his relief at having been able to finish the match with a good performance.“When I supported my ankle, I got scared, because at first it didn’t feel right,” Alcaraz commented.

Alcaraz also shared that the intervention of the physiotherapist and the possibility of walking towards the bench gave him the necessary confidence to move forward. The world number one highlighted his warrior mentality, applying it in every match and in every aspect of his performance.“I’m happy that I was able to play good tennis after that and finish the match quite well. I will try to recover and do whatever it takes to be ready for the next round,” he added.
