CHICAGO – Quarterback Caleb Williams starred in a brilliant performance, leading the Bears to a resounding 34-14 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at Soldier Field. The victory marked an important milestone, the first for the new Bears coach, Ben Johnson, who was immediately celebrated by his players. The team, which hadn’t won at home since October 6, 2024, broke a two-game losing streak after initial defeats to Minnesota and Detroit.
Williams unleashed an impressive aerial attack, possibly achieving the best game of his career. He threw for 298 yards and tied his personal record with four touchdowns, setting new personal bests with a passer rating of 142.6 and 10.8 yards per attempt. After receiving 68 sacks in his rookie season and six in the first two games of this season, Williams avoided being sacked for the first time in his NFL career. It will be fun for tonight, and we are already thinking about the next one. We are at a disadvantage here. We have a 1-2 record, and we have to get back to .500.

In the first half, Williams accumulated 239 yards, the most in any half of his young career. His touchdown passes were to Moore, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Cole Kmet, without suffering any interceptions. In addition to securing the first victory of the season for the Bears, Williams also guaranteed free hot dogs for the city of Chicago. The establishment “The Wieners Circle” announced on social media that it would give away free hot dogs if Williams scored four touchdowns against the Cowboys. Williams, although he has not visited the place, celebrated the promotion. He played an outstanding game. I think four different people scored. You can’t ask for much more.

The Bears’ offensive push began on their second series of the game, following a fumble recovery by Tyrique Stevenson. The team seized the opportunity and scored five plays later. Williams led a successful two-minute series that culminated in a touchdown pass to Kmet, his second touchdown pass under pressure, setting a new personal record. After a slow start in the second half against Minnesota and Detroit, Chicago changed course, maintaining possession for 9:54 minutes. The Bears completed a 19-play drive, including 11 consecutive runs, covering 76 yards, finishing with a pass from Williams to Moore. This was the longest touchdown series of the century for the Bears in terms of time and number of plays.Congratulations everyone, you got free hot dogs!

After losing an 11-point lead against the Vikings and suffering a 31-point defeat to Detroit, Williams highlighted that the victory “builds confidence” in the team. The Bears’ 31 points broke a streak of 13 consecutive games scoring less than 30 points, and the defense achieved four ball recoveries.I’m not kidding, I think I passed out after play number 8. In camp, we always did that long series drill in practice, where we did 12 to 15 plays. That one was 19. But those are the kind of things you prepare for in season. A little heat, a little humidity, so we wore them down at the end. Taking the ball for that whole third quarter was really good for us, and that’s something we should be able to maintain in the future.

Sunday’s victory comes four days after Johnson criticized the players for not having “championship caliber” practice habits. That same day, defensive leaders called a players-only meeting to address concerns after allowing 52 points to the Lions. It was an opportunity for defensive players to express their concerns.I think we have a lot of players who care. It’s something Coach Johnson and I talked about. We have a lot of players who care about us as teammates, but also about winning. I know we started 0-2, but the belief was still there, the confidence was still there that I talked about. So, it’s just that we can go out and do it and execute it. It’s always about that.
