Carson Wentz will remain at the helm of the Vikings
Quarterback Carson Wentz will continue as the starter for the Minnesota Vikings, according to coach Kevin O’Connell after the convincing 48-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Wentz had an outstanding performance, completing 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. His performance was crucial, as he replaced J.J. McCarthy, who is recovering from a right ankle sprain. The difference in the score allowed Max Brosmer, the substitute, to enter the game in the final quarter, making the Vikings’ dominance clear. McCarthy is expected to need between two and four weeks to recover, which secures Wentz’s starting position for the Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin. There is a possibility that Wentz will also be the starter in the Week 5 game in London against the Cleveland Browns, with McCarthy potentially returning after the team’s bye week in Week 6.In his first two starts in the NFL, McCarthy led a comeback victory over the Chicago Bears, although his QBR was the second-worst in the league (20.3). If McCarthy doesn’t recover by the Vikings’ bye week, his next start would be in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles at U.S. Bank Stadium.McCarthy has responded well to the initial treatment, but I want to make sure he is completely healthy, especially a young player with the movement skills he has demonstrated. We are going to do what’s right for him.
