DiJonai Carrington Out for the Season Due to Injury

Minnesota Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington will miss the remainder of the season after a significant foot injury was confirmed, the team announced on Saturday.

An MRI confirmed the sprain after Carrington was initially ruled out for Game 1 of the WNBA semi-final series against the Phoenix Mercury, scheduled for Sunday.

Carrington appeared to injure her foot at the end of Game 2 of the first-round series against the Golden State Valkyries. She was seen wearing a walking boot and walking with crutches on Friday at the press conference of her teammate Alanna Smith, who received the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Without Carrington, Minnesota’s bench loses a key player on both ends of the court. In the two games of the first-round series against the Valkyries, she provided the team with an offensive boost, scoring six points in Game 1 and 11 in Game 2. Carrington, selected for the first defensive team in 2024, also defended Golden State’s best guard on the court.

Carrington averaged 8.6 points in her 11 regular season games with the Lynx, shooting 48.5% overall and 45.5% from the 3-point line in those games, both career highs. She missed the final four regular season games due to a shoulder injury.
