Diego Lopes Achieves an Impressive Comeback with a Knockout over Jean Silva at UFC Fight Night

Diego Lopes starred in an exciting comeback on Saturday, knocking out Jean Silva in the featherweight main event at UFC Fight Night, held in San Antonio. Lopes (27-7), who was coming off a loss in April, was close to finishing the fight early, achieving the “full mount” in the first round and bleeding Silva with elbows, as well as attempting to submit him with his grappling skills. Silva resisted for almost two minutes in an unfavorable position. In the second round, Silva took control in the exchange of blows, but Lopes connected a spinning elbow that knocked Silva down, and then launched with twenty blows before referee Mike Beltran stopped the fight at 4:48. The fight didn’t end there, as Lopes’ celebration for the TKO was interrupted when Silva, with blood on his face and still staggering, got up and pushed his opponent.

This game has levels: your level and the high level. I am at the high level. I proved it tonight.

For Silva (16-3), the defeat ends a 13-fight winning streak dating back to 2018. In a high-ranking strawweight matchup, Tatiana Suarez dominated Amanda Lemos for much of the fight, but had to withstand a late rally from Lemos to earn a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Suarez (11-1) secured takedowns in all three rounds and accumulated 9 minutes and 34 seconds of control time in the 15-minute fight. The victory put Suarez back on track, as she had suffered her first professional defeat against then-champion Zhang Weili in February. Suarez positioned herself for another title opportunity, with Zhang having moved up to flyweight. Lemos (15-5-1) connected only five significant blows in each of the first two rounds, but remained active in the last minute of the third round, putting Suarez on the defensive. However, it was too little and too late for Lemos, who has lost two of his last three fights. The event was the third one called UFC Fight Night, held in the last three Septembers to commemorate Mexico’s Independence Day. This year’s UFC Fight Night was scheduled to be the first one held in Mexico, but the venue was changed due to delays in the construction of a new arena in Guadalajara. The card was also originally scheduled to be a numbered pay-per-view event, but ended up being a less prominent UFC Fight Night.
