Michael Kopech on the Injured List: Is His Postseason Participation at Risk?
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Michael Kopech has been placed on the injured list, raising doubts about his participation in the postseason. The news has set off alarms among fans and the coaching staff. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher has had a season marked by injuries, spending more time on the injured list than on the team’s active roster. Kopech returned to the team on September 1st after undergoing surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee. However, since his return, he has struggled on the mound. In his last four appearances, Kopech has conceded eight walks in just 2 and 2/3 innings.Kopech began the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury and did not return until early June. Then, he made eight appearances before being sidelined by the knee problem. In the season, Kopech has an ERA of 2.45 in 11 innings pitched, with 13 walks and 12 strikeouts. The team will seek to “reset” it and keep it as an option for the postseason. Right-handed pitcher Will Klein was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take his place. He’s going through some things physically. Obviously, with what we’ve seen, he hasn’t been consistent. He can certainly throw, those are his words, but he’s just not the Kopech, the standard, that is as a pitcher.
