Rasmus Dahlin Reveals Details About His Fiancée’s Health

The Sabres captain, Rasmus Dahlin, shared details about the difficult health situation faced by his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, who received a heart transplant this summer. The couple revealed through a joint letter the details of Matovac’s heart failure, which began during a vacation in France.

Fortunately, she received CPR on multiple occasions, and even for a couple of hours straight to keep her alive, which ultimately saved her life.

Matovac was transferred to a hospital in France, where she remained on life support for weeks before receiving a heart transplant. Subsequently, she was able to return to Sweden, her native country, where she began her rehabilitation process. According to Dahlin, Matovac is on the road to a “full recovery.” The couple, who share the same birthday, have been together for several years. Dahlin, named captain of the Sabres before last season, delayed his arrival in Buffalo as long as possible before training camp. He is expected to be fully ready for the season, although Matovac remains in Sweden for the time being. The star defender decided to share the details of this experience to raise awareness about the importance of CPR training and organ donation.

We want to recognize the tireless and, often, thankless efforts of emergency and health professionals everywhere. We cannot thank all organ donors enough, and we are grateful beyond words for the new life that organ donation has given Carolina.

Dahlin was the number 1 pick of the 2018 draft and finished sixth in the Norris Trophy voting last season. The Sabres are looking to make the playoffs this season for the first time in Dahlin’s career. Dahlin added that, although Carolina is still in rehabilitation, has shown incredible determination and resilience.
