Luis Enrique Avoids the Stands in Upcoming PSG Matches

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has revealed that he “wouldn’t dare” to watch his team’s next two matches from the stands. The French giants will face their eternal rival, Olympique de Marseille, in Sunday’s league match at the Stade Vélodrome and then travel to Spain to face FC Barcelona, Luis Enrique’s former club, on October 1st. Luis Enrique watched the first half of Wednesday’s Champions League triumph against Atalanta from the stands instead of being on the sidelines, to get a broader view of the game, as he did in the 2-0 victory against Lens in the league on Sunday.

Out of the house? No. I wouldn’t dare. I don’t dare because of my physical integrity, which isn’t the best right now.

When asked if he intended to do the same when his team visits Marseille and plays in Barcelona, Luis Enrique responded with laughter. Luis Enrique, 55 years old, is wearing a sling on his left arm after breaking his collarbone in a recent bicycle accident.

The PSG coach watched the match against Atalanta from the stands. Xavier Laine/Getty Images “It’s better not to play with certain things,” he commented. “I’ll watch it from the sidelines with my players and that way I can also feel that heat.” Luis Enrique explained, before the midweek match against Atalanta, why he is following the method used by rugby coaches, who prefer to be in the stands instead of being near the field. “From above, I get a lot of information that I can use at halftime,” he said. “Having more information is important to me.” When asked about Sunday’s “Clásico”, Luis Enrique said: “It’s a French clásico, a match that everyone wants to play and coach. It’s an intense atmosphere and that’s always attractive for any player.” The PSG, which achieved a historic treble last season, with Ligue 1, the French Cup and the Champions League, has had a perfect start to the season, with five wins in five games in all competitions.
