Kyle Tucker Seeks Recovery in Florida While the Cubs Secure a Postseason Berth

Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker traveled to Florida on Wednesday to receive additional treatment on his injured left calf. On the same day, the Chicago team secured its first playoff spot since 2020. Manager Craig Counsell reported that the recovery of Tucker, a four-time All-Star, had stalled due to the calf strain, which has kept him out of the lineup since September 2. A Cubs medical staff member accompanied Tucker to Florida to receive treatment from a group that helped him overcome a similar problem last season, when he played for the Houston Astros.

We agree with Kyle, and this is the best way for him to improve. Unfortunately, we have stalled and were not progressing. That’s frustrating for Kyle… We expect the same success and hope he returns to the field.

Craig Counsell
The Cubs acquired Tucker from Houston in December, avoiding arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract for $16.5 million. This season, he’s batting .270 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs in 133 games. Counsell indicated that Tucker will rejoin the team in Chicago next week for a six-game homestand, which will conclude the regular season. The Cubs will begin a four-game series in Cincinnati on Thursday.

We are concerned because he is not responding. I think we are optimistic that he will play, but we are at a point where the schedule… the days are running out.

Craig Counsell
It’s important that he plays in the regular season games before the playoffs… That’s why we’re willing to take this extra step to try something. I think it’s important that he plays next week. And we’re doing everything we can to make that happen.
