Roger Federer Shines in San Francisco: A Day of Tennis with Future Prospects

The legendary tennis player Roger Federer, known for his skill and charisma on the court, starred in a special event in San Francisco, delighting young players with his talent and sharing unforgettable moments. Federer, who is in the city to support and promote the Laver Cup that will be held this weekend at the Chase Center, participated in the inauguration of six renovated courts at John McLaren Park. This project is part of the Community Legacy initiative of the Laver Cup, which is carried out at each venue of the tournament. During the day, Federer not only demonstrated his skill with spectacular shots, but also shared tips and strategies with Yannick Noah, captain of the European team for the tennis exhibition. The Swiss star was excited to interact with the children and expressed his desire to have visited the city more during his professional career. In addition to signing autographs and taking selfies with the fans, Federer even played a few points with the mayor of San Francisco, Daniel Lurie.

“It’s a pleasure to come to a public park like this, spend time with the children, inspire them and talk about tennis. It’s gratifying to see the positive impact we have achieved with the Laver Cup here. I am very happy to be back,” commented Federer.

Federer, who retired three years ago at the age of 41, was impressed with the black court at the Golden State Warriors stadium and expressed his desire to be able to play there.

“It’s a special place. Strange not to be able to play, I would have loved to. I spoke with Tim Henman and we agreed that it would be an incredible place to play tennis”, added Federer.

While Casper Ruud and other tennis players have already had the opportunity to train on the court, a formal practice is expected to take place on Thursday so that fans can see the tennis stars in action. Patrick Rafter, assistant to the world team captain, Andre Agassi, also expressed his enthusiasm for the atmosphere of the event in a setting where Stephen Curry, star of the Golden State Warriors, is usually the main attraction.

“They are important names worldwide. We hope to meet them all and enjoy this incredible place. I didn’t imagine it could hold so many people, about 18,000 people. It will be great to sit and watch them play. Just seeing the guys warm up is impressive,” said Rafter.
