MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers are facing significant challenges with the recent wave of injuries affecting their pitching staff, just as the postseason approaches.

Quintana to the injured list

The team announced that pitcher José Quintana was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left calf strain. Quintana, who was seeking to secure a spot in the pitching rotation for the postseason, suffered the injury last Sunday during the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Right-handed reliever Nick Mears was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to replace Quintana.

Megill and his uncertain return

Star closer Trevor Megill, who has been dealing with a right flexor strain, remains a concern. Megill has been on the injured list since August 27. Manager Pat Murphy stated that Megill’s recent pitching sessions have not gone as expected, which has delayed his possible return.

We all want him to pitch before the postseason.

Pat Murphy
Murphy expressed caution about the possibility of Megill playing in the postseason with the injury. In a positive note, Robert Gasser, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in June 2024, threw 2 2/3 innings without allowing runs for Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. Chad Patrick, called up from Nashville on September 9, struck out all the batters in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Angels.
