Marileidy Paulino Returns to Tokyo to Defend Her World Title

SANTO DOMINGO – The outstanding Dominican athlete, Marileidy Paulino, Olympic and world champion in the 400-meter dash, is preparing for an exciting return to the track of the Tokyo National Stadium. This scenario, where her brilliant career began, will be the starting point for the defense of her title at the 2025 World Athletics Championships. Paulino, who has demonstrated exceptional performance on the international scene, will compete in the 400-meter elimination round this Sunday, September 14th, at 7:25 PM in Japan (6:25 AM Dominican Republic time). The athlete will seek to secure her place in the following rounds.

If they advance, the semi-final is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th at 9:05 p.m. (8:05 a.m. local time). The grand final, an event that all fans eagerly await, will take place on Thursday the 18th at 10:24 p.m. in Tokyo (9:24 a.m. in RD).

The Peravian sprinter, with a silver medal in Eugene 2022 and gold in Budapest 2023, aims to become the second woman in history, after the Australian Cathy Freeman, to achieve consecutive titles in the 400-meter flat race. The Dominican delegation will begin its participation in the Tokyo World Championships this Friday with Alexander Ogando competing in the 100 meters, followed by Liranyi Alonso and Lidio Feliz in their respective events.
