Cristiano Ronaldo Receives the “Best of All Time” Award

Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the “Best of All Time” award by the Portuguese Football League on Wednesday. The Portugal captain, the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football with 141 goals in 223 matches, adds another individual recognition to his impressive career.

An idol for millions, he defined an era and will leave an indelible mark on world football.

The Portuguese League highlighted that “CR7 was honored with the ‘Best of All Time’ award, a fitting recognition for the golden pages he continues to write in his career.” Ronaldo, recognized for his work ethic, competitiveness, and decision-making ability in crucial moments, has built a legacy that positions him as “The Best in History”.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, 40 years old, could not attend the ceremony in Porto, but sent a video expressing his gratitude.

I want to thank the League for this award for the best player of all time. For me it is a great honor to win something for my country. I would like to thank all my teammates who helped me throughout my career to win this wonderful trophy, the coaches and everyone who helped me to be even better.

Earlier this week, Ronaldo became the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifying history, equaling the record. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United player scored a penalty goal, his 39th in World Cup qualifying, joining Carlos Ruiz of Guatemala as the top scorer.

Viktor Gyökeres, Player of the Year in the Portuguese League

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyökeres was named Portuguese League Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Swedish striker joined Arsenal this summer after two successful years at Sporting CP. Gyökeres scored 54 goals last season in all competitions for Sporting, the most for a player at a top-tier club. His 39 league goals were crucial for Sporting to defend the league title last season.

I am truly honored to receive this incredible award for the best player of the season in the Portuguese League in 2024-25. I want to thank all the players, staff, and Sporting fans who made all this possible with their support throughout the season. It was an unforgettable season together, winning both the league and the cup.
