Alcaraz Recovers ATP Ranking Number 1; Anisimova Climbs in the WTA
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has officially regained the number 1 spot in the ATP ranking, displacing Jannik Sinner after defeating him in the US Open men’s final. Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova experienced a significant rise, climbing five positions to reach her best ranking in the WTA.Alcaraz achieved this milestone after his victory over Sinner at Arthur Ashe Stadium, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Sinner had held the number 1 spot since June 2024, accumulating 65 weeks in that position. The Spanish tennis player had reached number 1 for the first time in September 2022, at the age of 19, becoming the youngest number 1 in ATP history. In September 2023, he relinquished that position. In the WTA ranking, Anisimova rose to number 4 after reaching the US Open final, where she faced Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka secured her number 1 position by reaching the quarterfinals in New York, and then was crowned US Open champion for the second consecutive time, after defeating Anisimova. Anisimova’s rise is remarkable, considering she started last season outside the top 350 players, after a break for mental health. In the men’s ranking, Alexander Zverev remained in the number 3 position, while Novak Djokovic climbed three positions, moving from number 7 to number 4. Naomi Osaka, after reaching the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2021 Australian Open, climbed from number 24 to number 14.When you achieve the goals you set at the beginning of the year, you feel incredible.
