In a memorable day for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the talented Travis Hunter was one of the last to leave the locker room after the 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Hunter took extra time to assimilate his NFL debut. Sharing the joy with the fans, Hunter signed autographs and celebrated not only the Jaguars’ sixth victory in their last 24 games, but also their performance on both sides of the field against the Panthers.

I was excited and ready to go out and win with my team, bringing energy. As I always say, every time I’m interviewed, I try to give energy, lift up the guys, and make sure we stay true to ourselves and be the team we know we can be.

Although Hunter didn’t achieve impressive statistics (6 receptions, 33 yards, one tackle), his debut in both facets of the game was notable. He played 44 offensive snaps and 6 defensive snaps, becoming the second player in the last 10 years to surpass 30 offensive and 5 defensive snaps in the same game. The game plan for Week 1, according to coach Liam Coen, was because Hunter missed the second preseason game and several practices due to an injury. Coen anticipates greater defensive participation from Hunter as the season progresses.

There were a lot of coverage changes in the defensive zone for us with some of the Panthers’ formations. I think it will evolve and grow.

Liam Coen
Hunter expressed his satisfaction with his performance, although he regretted Jaycee Horn’s interception that prevented him from scoring his first touchdown.

I did my job. That was the main focus, to do my job. I did what they asked me and I know I can do more and better.

Coen backed Hunter’s assessment.

I think he played hard on offense. He played fast. He had good receptions, ran the right routes. I can only see this expanding from here.

The Jaguars quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, also praised Hunter, highlighting his potential as an offensive weapon and his ability to improve.

It was great. He had great receptions, obviously. I think he’s a weapon for us and will continue to improve. He’s a great player in space, excellent with the ball in his hands.

Trevor LawrenceIn addition to his outstanding performance, Hunter surprised everyone with a new look, cutting off his long dreadlocks.

It was the moment. New me, new person. Welcome to a new chapter in my life. Just cut it off.
