Dembélé Injured with France: Concern at PSG for Champions League

WROCLAW, Poland – Ousmane Dembélé suffered an injury while playing for France in a World Cup qualifying match on Friday, just 12 days before Paris Saint-Germain begins the defense of their Champions League title. Dembélé came on as a substitute in the second half of France’s match against Ukraine, which ended in a 2-0 victory, but lasted less than 35 minutes on the field. He left the field with what appeared to be a right hamstring injury, walking towards the bench with his right hand on the back of his right thigh.

The PSG winger had participated little in training with France this week to manage an injury.

The French coach, Didier Deschamps, looked visibly frustrated when Dembélé’s injury became apparent and gestured angrily towards the sideline. PSG will begin its eight-match Champions League opening phase program on September 17 at home against Atalanta. The French champions will visit Barcelona, Dembélé’s former club, two weeks later, on October 1st.
