Nolan McLean Impresses with Another Win for the Mets

Rookie Nolan McLean continues his outstanding season in MLB, showcasing an impressive performance on the mound. On Tuesday night, he led the Mets to a 12-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers, retiring the last 14 batters he faced.

McLean has become the first Mets pitcher to achieve a 4-0 record in his first four starts. In addition, he is the first pitcher in the Major Leagues to achieve this feat since Chase Anderson, who started 5-0 with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.

After a first episode with some challenges, McLean recovered and finished the game with seven strikeouts, allowing only two runs, three hits, and three walks. He is the first pitcher to win his first four starts allowing two or fewer runs in each of them since Jered Weaver, who achieved it in his first seven starts with the Los Angeles Angels in 2006.

With 28 strikeouts in his first four starts, McLean is positioned as the second best in Mets history, surpassed only by Nolan Ryan, who accumulated 29.

In terms of offense, Pete Alonso hit two home runs, Juan Soto added another home run, and Luis Torrens contributed a three-run homer for the Mets. The New York team won the first game of the series on Monday with a score of 10-8, and is now five games ahead of Cincinnati in the fight for the last wild card in the National League.

The Tigers, leaders of the American League Central Division, have suffered seven losses in their last nine games.

The first home run by Alonso traveled 435 feet and landed behind center field. Soto and Alonso hit back-to-back home runs in a six-run seventh inning that extended the Mets’ lead to 12-2.

Soto has 37 home runs in his first season with New York, including five in the last five games. Alonso’s second home run was number 33 of the year.

Jeff McNeil drove in three runs and had three of New York’s 17 hits. Brandon Nimmo and Brett Baty also stood out with three hits each for the Mets.
